Presentation

The Institute of Radical Chemistry ICR (UMR7273) is a Joint Research Unit under the tutorship of the University of Aix-Marseille and the National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS). Created on the 1st of January, 2012, ICR is attached to the Institute of Chemistry (INC) of the CNRS. From a scientific point of view, the creation of the UMR is the result of a strong will to bring together the complementary skills of research teams specialized in radical chemistry and to combine the expertise of two teams, focused on modeling methods (MQ and MM) and molecular or macromolecular characterization respectively.

Generally speaking, the objective of the Unit is twofold and consists of :

  • Explore, control and use the reactivity of radical species in chemical or biological processes.
  • Create new stable radical species for targeted applications.

More specifically, the Institute of Radical Chemistry is organized into 8 research teams whose research activities lie in the interfaces of radical chemistry, organic synthesis, simulations, materials or even biology. Seven teams, namely CMO, CRAB, CROPS, CT, SACS, SMBSO, SRPEP are located on the Saint-Jérôme campus, Av. Esc. Normandie Niemen, 13397 Marseille Cedex 20 and a team, namely PCR, is based in the premises of the Faculty of Pharmacy of Marseille, 27 Bd Jean Moulin, 13385 MARSEILLE Cedex 05.

Organization chart

The unit is structured into eight research teams and its governance is organized into three levels: the management, the scientific council and the council of the Unit.
