Congratulations to Julie BROGGI, a researcher in the pharmacochimie radicalaire (PCR) team, who is among the 2025 cohort of Junior Chairs of the French University Institute (IUF)!
Her research focuses on developing more sustainable redox catalysis strategies, with promising applications in the fields of pharmaceuticals, energy, and materials.
Julie also plays an active role in the life of the institute, having been passionately in charge of communications since 2018.
A heartfelt congratulations on this well-deserved recognition, which honors the excellence and rigor of her scientific career!
HDR and PhD defenses

Miquel HUIX-ROTLLANT (CT) will defend his HDR (Habilitation) on Thursday, June 26, titled “Energy Dissipation in Photoactive Molecular Systems: From the Gas Phase to the Condensed Phase.” The jury is composed of: Aurélien De La Lande (Université Paris Saclay), Denis Jacquemin (Université de Nantes), François Maurel (Université Paris Cité), Elise Dumont (Université Côte d’Azur – Nice), Maylis Orio (Aix-Marseille Université), and Nicolas Ferré (Advisor).
Starting at 9:00 a.m. in the thesis room at St Jérôme.

Baptiste CARON (CROPS) defended his doctoral thesis on June 18, titled Development of Antibacterial Medical Devices. The jury was composed of Colin Bonduelle (University of Bordeaux), Christine Bressy (University of Toulon), Najet Yagoubi (University of Paris-Saclay), Catherine Lefay (Co-supervisor), and Yohann Guillaneuf (Co-supervisor).

Travel Expenses – Stricter ANR Controls
The ANR is tightening its rules regarding the justification of travel expenses:
Eligible: Travel expenses for fixed-term contracts (CDD) funded by the ANR project, and for permanent staff involved in the project (must appear in both the list of participants and the final report).
Not eligible: Accommodation and transport costs for invited researchers (only meals during project-related meetings may be tolerated).
In summary: Only travel expenses for individuals officially declared on the project are eligible. Expenses for guests or thesis juries will no longer be covered by ANR project funds. Use préciput or institutional funding, which do not require justification.

Reminder – Mandatory supporting documents in Notilus (AMU/CNRS):
All business trips must be documented with an invitation letter, official summons, conference program, or any relevant proof. No travel will be approved without clear justification.
Sustainable Development

Estimated Water Savings at ICR Thanks to Equipment Funded by the CNRS 2024 Ecological Transition Call for Projects (AAP):
Each typical week, the following savings are achieved:

~400 hours of water use avoided for reflux setups
-
~5 hours saved from water vacuum pumps
This amounts to approximately 2 m³/week, or 82.5 m³/year (based on 42 weeks).
For reference, AMU’s water consumption in 2022 was:

224,000 m³ for 80,000 students and 8,000 staff.

All staff involved in research at the Aix-Marseille site are invited to take part in a forward-looking questionnaire to help inform strategic decisions in the coming years. Together, let’s reflect on this fundamental question: what will science look like on our site by 2040, and what conditions must be put in place to succeed? Research units, institutional institutes, and departments are encouraged to imagine all possible futures for our disciplines. -
A Guide to Support CNRS Scientists in Public Communication
To assist scientists who wish to speak out in the media, CNRS has published a guide to public communication. This practical toolkit is based on recommendations from the CNRS Ethics Committee and reflects the needs expressed by its scientific communities during a survey conducted in March 2024.

Félicitations à Julie BROGGI, chercheuse au sein de l’équipe de pharmacochimie radicalaire (PCR) qui figure parmi les lauréats de la promotion 2025 des Chaires juniors de l’Institut universitaire de France (IUF) !
Ses travaux visent à développer des stratégies de catalyse rédox plus durables, avec des applications prometteuses dans les domaines de la pharmacie, de l’énergie et des matériaux.
Julie joue également un rôle actif dans la vie de l’institut, en assurant avec engagement la responsabilité de la communication depuis 2018.
Un grand bravo pour cette distinction amplement méritée, qui récompense l’excellence et la rigueur de son parcours scientifique !

L’ANR durcit ses règles de justification des frais de mission :

Éligibles : frais de mission pour les CDD financés sur le projet ANR et pour les personnels permanents impliqués sur le projet (mentionnés dans la liste des participants et le rapport final).

Non éligibles : frais d’hébergement et de transport pour les chercheurs invités (seuls les repas lors de réunions de projet peuvent être tolérés).
En résumé : Seuls les frais de mission des personnes déclarées sur le projet sont éligibles. Les frais pour invités ou jurys de thèse ne seront plus pris en charge par les crédits ANR. Utilisez les préciputs ou dotations, qui ne nécessitent pas de justificatifs.

Un guide pour accompagner l’expression publique des scientifiques du CNRS
Afin d’aider les personnels scientifiques qui le souhaitent dans leurs prises de parole médiatiques, le CNRS leur propose un guide de l’expression publique. Véritable boîte à outils, ce document s’appuie sur les recommandations du Comité d’éthique du CNRS et sur les attentes de ses communautés scientifiques exprimées à l’occasion d’une enquête réalisée en mars 2024.
