Congratulations to Dr Isaure Sergent, who received the 2025 AMU thesis prize for her work on the contribution of ion mobility spectrometry to the decoding of digital polymers. This thesis was supervised by Prof. Laurence Charles from the SACS team and Dr Anouk Siri from the CT team.
Her thesis is part of an ambitious project: using synthetic polymers as 𝘀𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗱𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗰𝗸𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗱’𝗶𝗻𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻. The principle is based on encoding data in the sequence of monomers constituting the polymer chain, a bit like “molecular bits”. Isaure has developed an approach combining ion mobility and mass spectrometry to enable faster and more efficient analysis of these digital polymers, by limiting the heavy and time-consuming steps of conventional MS/MS sequencing.
